Chinese Cabbage Dumplings

Chinese Cabbage Dumplings
Dumplings filled with Napa cabbage and other delicious vegetables is among the most well-liked classic food in our classrooms. So delicious, healthy and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 6 cups (1 medium sized head) of green cabbage, such as Napa, finely chopped
- ¾ cup green onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 block extra firm tofu, drained
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
- 1 Tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 package dumpling wrappers
Instructions
- Put a large pot of water on the stove to boil.
Make the Dumpling Filling
- Chop the cabbage into small pieces and put into a large mixing bowl. Chop the green onions. Mince the ginger. Combine the cabbage and green onions in a large mixing bowl.
- Crumble the drained tofu into small pieces with your hand or a spoon and squeeze out excess water with your hands. Add to the bowl.
- Add the remaining ingredients (ginger, pepper, soy sauce, vegetable oil and sesame oil) and mix well.
Assemble and Cook the Dumplings
- To wrap the dumplings, place one tablespoon of the filling in the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edge of the wrapper with water, fold the edge over to form a half circle shape. Pinch side to seal in filling. Make sure that the edges are pressed tight.
- Gently drop dumplings into the pot of boiling water and stir gently to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
- Cook dumplings for about 8-10 minutes or until dumplings are cooked through and start to float.
Notes
Variations to Try
- Experiment with different fillings for example ground pork or turkey instead of tofu
- Try frying the dumplings in a pan with little oil.

- 1 teaspoon chili sauce
- ½ teaspoon sesame oil
