Spiced Poached Pears
A simple yet delicious way to eat pears when they are in season.
Ingredients
- 4 Barlett or Anjou pears
- 3 cups apple juice
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- Zest of 1 orange
- Zest of 1 lemon
Directions
- Peel, halve and core the pears.
- In a medium saucepan, mix the juice with the remaining ingredients.
- Bring to a boil then slip the pear halves in.
- Reduce heat to simmer, put a lid on the pan.
- Cook the pears until they are easily pierced with a fork, about 15-20 minutes.
- Serve each pear half with a drizzle of the poaching liquid.
